Getting Started with Meridian VoiceMail

1. Notify Neil

Voicemail must be activated for each local. Ask Neil England (local 7447) to enable voicemail for your phone.

2. Setting Up

Dial Local 7300, or 222-7300 from outside. Enter your mailbox number (your local), then "#". If you are calling from your own phone, just press "#". Then enter your password, terminated with "#". Your password is initially set the same as your local.

Next, set your personal greeting.
Press "8215", then record your greeting (outgoing message), then "#" to stop recording. You can edit your greeting if you like.

Next, record your personal name. This will be used to tag messages you send to other people. Press "895", then record your name, then press "#" to stop.

Next, set your password. If you don't do this, other people including outside callers will be able to listen to your messages, forge messages from your phone, and possibly make long-distance calls.
Press "84". Enter your new password (6 - 16 digits), followed by "#". Re-enter the new password to confirm it, followed by "#". Then enter the old password (your local), followed by "#". (Tip: use the letters on the keypad to help you pick a memorable password).

Log out. Press "83". Logging out like this frees up the system quicker than just hanging up.

Q. What if I share a local?

A. For the moment, you will only have one mailbox and one password per local. You must compose a suitably ambiguous greeting and personal name, and agree on a password. Messages must be explicitly deleted, so a message for someone else will still be there even though you listened to it.

Q. How do I know if I've got any messages?

A. If you have a Meridian phone, it has a light on it. If not, you will hear a different dial tone (like a "fast busy"), distinct from the regular dial tone or busy signal, when you pick up the handset.
