I am evaluating different methods of making engineering drawings available
on the Web. I see three different possible methods:
Convert the original drawings
to a common image format, then serve the images. A problem here is that
the images may become 'stale' with respect to the source drawings.
Serve the drawing files directly, and rely on the browsing machine to have
a suitable viewer.
Maintain the original
files on the server, and use a server-side script to convert the drawings
to an image file. This would impose a considerable burden on the server
machine, though image cacheing could be used.
The approach taken here is to serve converted images.
Please mail comments regarding the ease of viewing of the different image
formats to advax@triumf.ca .
Pleas do not view all the drawings from off-site just because they're there.
The drawings files are quite large.
