There is a TV here, also vending machines for food and drinks. The TRIUMF control room is manned 24 hours when the cyclotron is running, so the experimenters and operators need somewhere to take a break. Smoking is allowed outside the building only. Eating and drinking is also forbidden in in the Meson and Proton Halls due to the (slight) risk of radioactive contamination. Although the atmosphere is regularly checked for radioactive particles, radiation is continuosly monitored at fixed stations arounf the site, and safety surveys are done on a regular basis, the rules prevent someone inadvertently mopping up a recent radioactive spill with a sandwich and then eating it.
