The basic function of the module is to compact the CCD data by removing data
that falls below a programmable threshold. Clusters of input data, which may
represent one or more physical pulses, are passed
to an output buffer. Each cluster is followed by a 2-byte cluster header,
comprising the bin address and cluster length. Following the last cluster
header, a 4-byte channel header is generated. This contains a word count,
cluster count and channel ID.
